Rapid KL introduces new fares

4

In my post about Rapid KL on July 11 2009, I wrote that you can reuse the ticket you buy for the rest of the day as long as you board the Rapid KL buses that have same initial letter on it.

However due to the Malaysia government decision to allow the increase in the fare on 17th of July, you cannot get that priviledge anymore as you need to buy the new ticket every time you board the bus.

According to Rapid KL CEO, Suffian Baharuddin, after taking into consideration the factors such as the costly maintenance, Rapid KL has to stop the daily ticket system that has been used since 2006.

Although that system will be forfeited, the users can still enjoy the discount fares when they buy the monthly passes at low prices to reduce their burden.

The monthly pass gives up to 50% of saving if compared to when you buy the ticket every time you use the bus.

Starting this September, “Touch n Go” also will be halted and can only be used once the restructuring of that system has been done.

There are 4 types of monthly passes and one of them is concession monthly pass (Pas Bulanan Konsesi) which is dedicated just for school students (with uniform), the people that are 60 years old and above and also for disabled.

For these users who don’t want to buy the monthly pass, they also enjoy 50% of ticket prices when buying the ticket each and every time they use the Rapid KL buses.

According to the Minister at Prime Minister Department, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz, the fares for non-express buses in Kuala Lumpur and the nearby areas will have the increase between RM1 to RM3.10 depending on the zone while the monthly payment  for school buses in the cities will be increased to RM 27.43 and RM2.02 for the additional km.

While in the rural areas, the rate now at RM15.85 will be increased to RM20.61.

The fares is too high and the bus always not on time especialy U24. RapidKL should start back using Touch N Go and introduce new Monthy Pass for UTAMA only.

Thank you.
