P1 Wimax Broadband Internet Review

I just want to share my personal review from my own experience trying the P1 Wimax 4G broadband internet within the 7 days cooling off period.

On December 4, I went to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre at KLCC for the PIKOM PC Fair 2009. It was the first day of the PC  fair. One of the things that caught my attention was the Wimax broadband internet offered by P1 or Packet One Network.

I was so to learn that the coverage was available in my area and they told me that  I would get the full speed of Internet connection with this P1 Wimax. I paid RM100 for upfront fee and get the modem with 24 months or 2 years contract.

I went back home, unboxing the Wimax desktop modem, plugged to get connected to the Net. At first when the modem stabilized with the yellow light. However just a few moment later, the modem only gave the red light meaning the Wimax signal weak.

I couldn’t even view the simple site like Google. You can see from the picture above that I put the modem next to the window.

After 2 days the same thing happened and I called the P1 Customer Support and the staff told me that my area is still not under Wimax coverage.

I decided to return the modem to the P1 headquarter in Petaling Jaya tomorrow  and to get the refund (I don’t know exactly how long I need to wait to get my RM100 back)  as they promised if I’m not satisfied with the service within 7 days. Let’s wait and see.

So, if you plan to get this P1 Wimax, you’d better ask the promoter along to your house to try it before subscribing. However this won’t guarantee the connection will be all time stable.

For me, the best is still Streamyx from TMNet.
