Malaysia National Day 2009
Today is the celebration of Malaysia Independence and it has been 52 years since this country achieved independence from British back in the year 1957. The independence was achieved through the discussions and talks and Tunku Abdul Rahman had to go to London for it.
The late Tunku was very fluent in British English and I’m amazed with the way he spoke that language as I see in the videos about him.

Did you know that the event above took place at Merdeka Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor. Yes! Kuala Lumpur was still in Selangor then till 1974.
52 years probably has been a long time to most of us but for a country, Malaysia is still considered a young country but the development is rapid and progressive because we have the leaders that always seek the peace among the multi-racial societies of Malaysia.
I said Malaysia is a young country, look at our neighbouring country Thailand that escaped western colonial rules and the only country in Southeast Asia that has that record. They have been independence for around more than 700 years ( I forgot the exact number and ignore the Burmese occupation in Ayutthaya for just 1 month).
The number one reason for this maybe Siam (the former name of Thailand) was considered as a buffer state. Furthermore the Siamese King was also a smart person. British didn’t want to colonize Siam as they needed the food supply and to avoid the French who was in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. The same goes with French I think.
If you are Malaysian, let’s together we pray and work on it that our country will be always in tranquility and retain the present day good relationships among us no matter whether we are from different races or political parties. I hope the current scary H1N1 flu issue will be over soon although it’s hard to do so.
Thanks for reading. MERDEKA! (over and over 7 times) and maybe you like this song (also in National Language) from Sudirman Haji Arshad.
